Soft Tissue Injuries

A soft tissue injury is damage of the soft tissue of the body. These injuries are a major source of pain and disability. The four tissues commonly injured are the epithelial, muscular, nervous and connective tissues. Bruises, contusions and other signs of injury should be photographed immediately and periodically. The most critical factor in investigating the case is timing and documentation. Treatment of a soft tissue injury begins with a good medical history and a thorough physical examination. An X-ray may also be necessary to assess the possibility of a fracture or dislocation. Soft tissue injuries are commonly caused by accidents, sports, being struck by an object, falling or repetitive movements. Treatment usually consists of physiotherapy exercises, electrotherapy and massages.
