School bus-car accident in West Virginia kills car passenger

A school bus is a truck. That makes it a commercial vehicle. And like all commercial vehicles, those who drive school buses in West Virginia are required to get special training and can only drive under special licensure. The purpose for this, of course, is to enhance the safety for all on the road. Unfortunately, truck accidents involving school buses and other large vehicles occur.

For example, a school bus in Mingo County, West Virginia, collided head on with a car near Breeden. Fortunately, there were no children on board the school bus at the time of the accident. The school bus driver did not suffer any serious injuries as a result of the crash.

A passenger in the car was not as lucky. He suffered life threatening injuries and did not survive the crash. The condition of the driver of the car is unknown. Authorities say the accident occurred when the driver of the car veered across the center line of the roadway and slammed into the school bus.

When the Mingo County Sheriff's Department searched the car, deputies discovered cans of alcohol and bottles of pills. Charges are expected to be filed as a result of the investigation. In addition to criminal charges, the driver of the car may find himself facing a wrongful death action from the family of the passenger that died in the crash.

The family of that victim may be able to file a wrongful death action in connection with this tragic car accident in order to recover the out-of-pocket expenses they incurred as a result of the accident. Those out-of-pocket expenses might include things such as funeral costs. A key question to answer is the extent of possible liability for negligence that may be shared by all involved.
