Virginia wrongful death cases: Is faulty baby recliner to blame?

The severe injury or death of a child is a parent's worst nightmare. Parents in West Virginia may be interested to learn about five wrongful death cases recently reported in the media. They each resulted from accidents surrounding the use of a "baby recliner" manufactured by a children's product development company.

The Pennsylvania based company has recalled approximately 165,000 baby recliners. The recliners have now been linked to the wrongful death of at least five children. The incidences purportedly occurred as a result of children falling or hanging over the sides of the recliners.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has received at least 92 incident reports concerning the products since the year 2009. As part of the settlement between the CPSC and Baby Matters LLC, the company has announced the recall of the Nap Nanny Chill and the Nap Nanny. Purportedly for infants passed away in Nap Nanny Generation Two recliner's and a fifth child passed away using the Nap Nanny Chill. Additionally, for national retailers made an agreement to recall over 150,000 of the chairs in 2012 after the manufacturer proved unwilling or unable to participate. The manufacturer of the recalled recliners is no longer in business.

If you or someone you love has been affected by a faulty product, and the use of the product resulted in wrongful death, you may be uncertain of where to turn next. Settlements associated with product liability can go a long ways to cover the costs associated with funerals and, in some cases, medical bills. While no amount of money can replace the life of a loved one, West Virginia families who have suffered loss deserve compensation for their pain and suffering.
