West Virginia may not be aware of dangerous household product

West Virginia residents that are concerned for their health may be aware of dangerous household products. Those that straighten their hair or have their hair professionally straightened may have recently heard about a hair straightened chemical that is now believed to cause cancer. While the product was intended for salon use, it could easily be considered a dangerous household product since there are stores that sell these products to consumers.

The Brazilian Blowout Acai Professional Smoothing Hair Solution is believed to have high levels of formaldehyde, which can be a very dangerous chemical. It is found is many household cleaning products and is also used to embalm dead bodies. While typically applied by a stylist, this leaves not only the client vulnerable to the toxins, but the stylist is at risk as well.

Exposure to the chemical can cause upper respiratory problems, nasal cancer, and leukemia just to name a few of the possible health risks it poses. In 1987, OSHA mandated that a worker exposed to formaldehyde could only work an eight hour day. They also set standards for the amount of formaldehyde that can be in a product. The hair straightening product well exceeds the regulated amount.

Any West Virginia resident that feels they have received injuries or suffered an illness due to a dangerous household product may want to look into their rights under the applicable state laws. When a person purchases a product, typically they do so with the confidence it is safe and has been tested and approved by the company. When a product doesn't meet certain standards and proves to be dangerous a civil suit could be appropriate.
