Just about anywhere that a person travels around Charleston, it is common to encounter tractor trailers. These big rigs are used to transport goods to local neighborhood grocery stores, to construction sites and to other commercial and private companies. Because these vehicles haul a lot of goods and are often on a time constraint, sometimes errors are made. For example, a truck company may have failed to notice an engine problem or a load may not be secured correctly. When negligence occurs on the part of drivers or their employers, it is not uncommon for someone to get hurt.
A truck accident resulted in a man being sent to a nearby hospital in Dupont City. The pedestrian was found lying by the side of the road in a ditch by the driver of the tractor trailer. The driver of the truck told law enforcement that he stopped when he hit something that crossed the path of his truck. He had just passed the pedestrian and claims that the man looked at him before the collision occurred.
The man's injuries were not life-threatening and it is unknown whether he has been able to tell officers his side of the story. The truck driver was found to be sober after being administered a breath test and drug influence is not suspected. It is unknown whether the driver was given a citation.
When a person is injured because of the negligence of a truck driver, they may face serious challenges such as lost income, medical bills and pain and suffering. However, victims can ask a court to give them compensation for these damages. In such cases, it may be beneficial to speak with an experienced attorney.
