Charleston woman awaiting trial after deadly DUI crash

Some decisions lead to consequences that can last a lifetime. Sometimes these decisions lead to consequences that can end a life. Every time a drunk driver chooses to get behind the wheel of a vehicle, he or she puts the lives of others at risk. A drunk driving accident can cause needless pain and suffering for innocent bystanders as well as heartache for the families and loved ones of those who do not survive the crash.

Recently, a Charleston woman appeared before a judge to face charges stemming from a head-on collision that occurred earlier this year. According to prosecutors, the woman was drunk when she drove her car on Interstate 77, travelling in the wrong direction: north in the southbound lanes. Allegedly, the woman crashed her car into the pickup truck of a man, who was driving to work. Both drivers were taken to CAMC General Hospital. The woman survived the crash, but the driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the hospital. The woman was charged with DUI causing death. She has pled not guilty. The judge in the case has ordered that she remain on home confinement while awaiting trial.

If you or a loved one was involved in a car accident caused by someone who had been drinking, keep in mind that any criminal charges brought against the drunk driver are separate from a civil case. You may be entitled to compensation to help you recover from the accident. A personal injury attorney can tell you more about your options.
