Mazda recalls 109,000 Tributes due to auto defect in steering

Just a few weeks ago, West Virginia residents may have heard about Mazda recalling some of their Mazda6 sedans due to an issue with spiders. Now, Mazda is recalling more than 100,000 of their SUVs due to the potential of the SUV losing its steering power. Affected model years with this auto defect are 2001-2004. These vehicles are only registered or sold within 20 of the states across the nation.

The issue is apparently in the Tribute's suspension system. The lower control arm is prone to serious corrosion. This can result in the lower control arm separating from the front suspension system, which would ultimately result in the vehicle losing steering control. Ultimately, this means that drivers are at an increased risk for getting into a motor vehicle accident.

At this time, Mazda has not been notified of any accidents or accident-related injuries. However, Mazda is making efforts to inform all 2001-2004 Mazda Tribute SUV owners so that they can bring their vehicles in for repair. While it is being repaired, Mazda is providing a free rental car.

West Virginia is one of the states where these Mazda Tribute SUVs were initially sold or are registered at this time. Therefore, it is critical that car owners take their vehicle in for repair as soon as possible to reduce the risk of accident. Those who have been injured in a car accident after losing steering control may want to consider filing a products liability claim to hold Mazda responsible for their negligence of allowing a vehicle to leave the factory with an auto defect. This can often provide remuneration to the victim, which can assist with medical expenses, loss of wages and more.
