Handles for welding torch are being recalled as defective product

More than 13,000 handles for welding torches are being recalled throughout the United States, including here in West Virginia. The handles are said to possibly leak fuel or oxygen. This can create a dangerous fire hazard, which is why consumers should be aware of the potential injury that could arise from continuing to use this defective product.

The handles that are being recalled are gold in color. They are made from brass and are primarily used in welding industries. There are two separate models that are being recalled right now. They have been sold under two different brands. These two brands are Harris Products Group and Lincoln Electric.

The handles were sold individually as well as part of a kit. The model numbers for the torch handles include 85 and 18-5 with manufacture date codes that include GA, GB, GC and FM. The handles were sold between Dec. 2013 and May 2014 nationwide at retailers, including Lowe's and Home Depot.

At this time, the company has not been notified of any injuries or incidents involving the handles. However, now that the recall has been officially announced, that may change. Anyone who has purchased these handles are advised to stop using them and return the products immediately.

Consumer injuries and even death can often result from a defective product, such as these welding torch handles. In some cases, a person's quality of life may suffer for several years -- if not forever. Consumers in West Virginia may benefit from taking the time to fully understand their legal rights and options. A successfully navigated products liability lawsuit may help an injured consumer recover monetary damages for the pain that was suffered and any financial losses that the individual endured due to a defective product.
