Auto defects lead to GM recall involving power steering

Defective vehicles can quickly lead to preventable accidents resulting in injury or death. Drivers of General Motors vehicles in West Virginia may benefit from learning about a recent recall issued by the auto company. Officials are recalling over 80,000 vehicles due to auto defects involving power steering.

GM has decided to recall the automobiles because of issues that may lead the power-steering feature of the vehicles to fail. This recall covers three different models, the Pontiac G6, the Chevrolet Malibu and the Malibu Maxx that feature power steering. These vehicles are from model years 2006, as well as 2007.

Drivers will know that they have lost power steering when they see a message displayed on their GM driver information centers accompanied by a chime. The information center message will state that drivers may still be able to maintain control of their vehicles after losing power steering, but that the loss will require a greater amount of effort if they are traveling at lower speeds. GM dealers can replace the sensor assembly located in the vehicles' power steering to correct the defect. The current recall is actually an expansion of the company's 2014 recall that covered nearly 1.3 million automobiles.

So far, only one crash has resulted from the vehicle defect, and, fortunately, there have been no reports of deaths or injuries. If people are injured in vehicles due to auto defects, they may feel victimized and immediately wish to hold the car manufacturer accountable. They have the right to pursue compensation for monetary damages by filing a defective product claim in the West Virginia civil court system.
