Power steering auto defects prompt recall of 423,000 Fords

It does not take much for a defective vehicle to lead to a car accident. In most cases, it is a car accident that should have been preventable. West Virginia residents who have Ford vehicles may want to take note of a recent recall from the Ford Motor Company as the auto defects that are prompting the recall are particularly alarming.

Ford has recently recalled over 420,000 vehicles due to issues with the power steering. The recall directly impacts 2011 to 2013 Ford Taurus, Ford Flex, Lincoln MKS and Lincoln MKT. It also impacts 2011 to 2012 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ. In addition, 2011 Mercury Milans are affected.

Apparently, the issue is an electrical connection. The defective connection can cause the power steering to fail while the vehicle is being driven. This causes the vehicle to be much more difficult to maneuver, which can easily lead to an accident in the right circumstances.

On a side note, Ford has also recently recalled some of its 2015 Ford Mustangs. Apparently, around 20,000 of them have a defect that can cause high underbody temperatures. This could potentially destroy the fuel tank and possibly even cause a fire in the right conditions.

The West Virginia justice system can be particularly complex, so it is always best to take the time to become familiar with one's rights as well as the legal options that are available. When an accident happens due to an auto defect and results in serious injury or even death, it is not uncommon for victims or family members of deceased victims to automatically hold the manufacturer of the vehicle accountable for the harm that the defect caused. Victims have the right to seek financial restitution by filing a product liability claim citing auto defects. If it can be proven, a monetary judgment may be awarded.
