Auto defects in Uconnect systems in Chrysler vehicles

Drivers here in West Virginia who own Chrysler made vehicles will want to hear about the most recent recall that the vehicle manufacturer has made. Two security researchers recently found a weak spot in a Jeep's Uconnect computer system. Apparently, this weakness allowed them to take complete control of the Jeep, including its steering, brakes and dashboard controls. Now, Chrysler has issued a recall for nearly 1.5 million of its vehicles to repair the auto defects that have led to such a hack being possible.

There are numerous vehicles included in this recall. To begin, it affects 2013-2015 model MY Dodge Viper specialty vehicles, 2015 Dodge Challenger sports coupes as well as the 2015 model MY Chrysler 200 and 300. The 2014 to 2015 model Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee SUVs, along with Dodge Durangos of the same years, are affected. The 2013 to 2015 model Ram 150, 2500 and 350 pickups and 3500, 4500 and 550 Chassis Cabs are part of the recall too.

This recall doesn't require consumers to actually bring their vehicles into a dealership. Instead, they'll be issued a USB flash drive that can be plugged directly into the dashboard on their vehicle. This will then install the security update that should fix the vulnerability in the vehicle's system.

Vehicle manufacturers have a certain duty to design and produce vehicles that are safe for all consumers to own and operate. When they fail to do this and it results in injuries, West Virginia consumers have the legal right to file a product liability claim against the manufacturer of the vehicle. Damages can be sought in these lawsuits, which, if awarded, may help to cover lost wages, medical bills and any other expenses that can be tied to the injuries caused by the auto defects.
