Prestone de-icer among latest dangerous or defective products

With winter just around the corner, West Virginia residents may be starting to stock up on some windshield de-icer. However, it is important that residents be aware of the one of the latest recalls regarding dangerous or defective products as it may impact one's product decision. Prestone is currently recalling over four million bottles of its de-icer for windshields. Apparently, the reason behind the recall of this product is it is not child-resistant as required by law.

The recall affects the trigger spray bottles of the Windshield De-Icer and the Ice & Frost Shield products. The trigger spray assembly can easily be removed, which can be dangerous if the product is ingested. This is particularly true for young children as the products contain ethylene glycol and methanol.

The products were sold at various physical and online retailers. The recall is impacting any clear yellow, 32-ounce bottles that were sold since September of 2011. As of right now, Prestone has not been informed of any adverse incidents. To determine if one has an affected product, one should try to twist the neck counter-clockwise. If it comes unscrewed, contact Prestone to request a new assembly that is child-resistant and cannot be removed.

Dangerous or defective products are sold all the time and are responsible for countless injuries to consumers every single year, including right here in West Virginia. Individuals who sustain a significant injury due to the defects of a product may have the chance to seek restitution via a personal injury or product liability claim against the manufacturer of the product. Manufacturers have a certain responsibility to ensure that its products are 100 percent safe for consumer use, and when they fail to do so, they can be held liable for any injures that occur as a result.
