Evenflo booster seats recalled as dangerous products

Consumers with young children in West Virginia may be driving around with child safety seats that are defective according to their manufacturer. The company Evenflo recently decided to recall more than 56,000 of its safety seats. The dangerous products are being recalled because children who are curious may end up loosening the internal harness, thus increasing their risk of injury during a vehicle crash.

The Evenflo recall covers all Transitions Three-in-One Combination Booster Seats that were produced from December 2014 to January 2016. According to the company, the central front adjusting button responsible for loosening the harness might be within the reach of a child. If the harness does not fit snugly, this increases the child's chance of injury.

According to Evenflo, the problem impacts only seats when they are used as harnessed boosters that face forward. No injuries have yet been reported. The booster seat issue was discovered in January during the company's analysis of feedback it had received from consumers.

People who are injured as a result of the use of defective products -- or parents whose children are injured due to defective products -- have the right to seek justice through the civil court system. They can file personal injury claims, seeking the reimbursement of monetary damages. Claims for damages will be awarded only if liability is established to the satisfaction of the court hearing the case, based upon a showing of negligence. Awarded damages may help to cover losses related to the use of the dangerous products, including medical bills in West Virginia.
