Car accident leads to 4 deaths, DUI charges

A car wreck has sadly taken the lives of four individuals in West Virginia, leaving their surviving loved ones with questions about how this type of fatal accident could have happened. The car accident occurred along Interstate 77. It took place early in the morning on a Monday.

The accident occurred at around 1:30 a.m. A man, 35, was reportedly driving south in his pickup truck but was in the lane going north. Police said as a result, he struck a sport utility vehicle head-on. Eight people were inside the SUV.

Two of the four individuals who died in the wreck were a 6-year-old girl and a 9-year-old girl, while the other two were two women, ages 27 and 29. The other four people in the SUV were ages 3, 4, 8 and 27, and they all suffered injuries in the crash; the pickup truck driver also suffered injuries. The family was traveling home from Disney World, where they had just taken a vacation. Police said they believed that alcohol might have been a causal factor in the collision. The pickup truck driver was slated to be charged with DUI causing bodily injury and death (four counts).

Not only may the pickup truck driver face criminal charges in this West Virginia car accident, he may also face civil liability claims. This is because the surviving family members of the deceased accident victims have the right to file wrongful death claims against him, seeking damages. The injured parties may also opt to file personal injury claims against the man. If the man ends up being charged and convicted on these charges, proof of the charges may be presented in a related civil court proceeding in an effort to establish his liability in the accident.
