Off-highway vehicle auto defects lead to fires and deaths

Vehicles that feature defects may quickly cause serious injury or death in West Virginia. Unfortunately, one teenager recently died after using an off-highway vehicle with auto defects. There have also been several reports of fires involving the Polaris recreational vehicles.

The defective Polaris off-highway vehicles have been recalled. This recall involves more than 130,000 Polaris RZR 1000s and 900s. The recalled vehicles are from the model years of 2013 to 2016.

The recall was issued since Polaris received 160-plus reports of fires tied to the vehicles. One of the fires caused the death of a passenger, 15, following a rollover crash. There have also been 19 reports regarding injuries, including third-, second- and first-degree burns. The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Polaris have warned consumers to quit using the vehicles and to contact their Polaris dealers for free repairs.

By the time recreational vehicles and other types of automobiles are made available to the public in West Virginia, people naturally trust that the products have been thoroughly tested and deemed safe. Unfortunately, this does not always happen, with auto defects having the potential to cause major injuries or even death. Even if auto recalls are issued, consumers may have already been impacted by the dangerous automobiles. In such a situation, it is within the right of an injured party or of the surviving loved ones of a deceased victim to pursue the reimbursement of financial damages tied to the use of the dangerous automobile. If achieved, monetary damages may help to cover hospital bills, funeral costs and other product liability-related expenses.
