Dangerous products recalled by Ikea include MALM dressers

Consumers in West Virginia may be affected by a new recall issued by the furniture and housewares store Ikea. The store recently recalled six models of the company's MALM dressers. Consumers can receive partial or full refunds for these dangerous products or request complementary wall-anchoring repair kits.

The MALM dressers have been recalled voluntarily after six children's deaths have been linked to the use of these dressers. All six of the children who died were 3 years old or younger. In addition, the company received 36 reports about injuries to children.

Ikea has considered the furniture to be too dangerous to keep in homes if the dressers are not anchored. This is especially the case in homes with young children. According to the company, the dressers being recalled were never intended to be free-standing but rather attached to walls using straps. The furniture being recalled may be taken to any Ikea store, or the store can pick up the furniture at no cost.

Unfortunately, even if dangerous products are recalled, some individuals in West Virginia may have already been injured or lost their lives as a result of using these hazardous products. A person who is injured has the right to file a personal injury claim, while the loved ones of a person who has died may choose to file a wrongful death claim, seeking the reimbursement of monetary damages. A case that is successfully litigated may lead to a damage award, which could help to cover funeral costs, hospital bills and other losses tied to the use of the product.
