Dangerous household products include dehumidifiers

West Virginia consumers who have purchased dehumidifiers in the past several years may be impacted by a recent home recall. Millions of these household products were recently recalled due to the risk of overheating associated with them. The recall was issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

This dehumidifier recall impacts more than three million Midea dehumidifiers. The products come in a range of sizes and were sold under multiple names, such as Frigidaire, GE and Kenmore. GD Midea Air Conditioning Equipment manufactured the products, and several stores throughout the nation sold them between 2003 and 2013, including PC Richard, Lowes and Menards.

Individuals who have the problematic dehumidifiers are encouraged to turn them off immediately. They can get in touch with GD Midea for a partial refund or a replacement. There have been almost 40 reports of fire and smoke and nearly $5 million in property damage resulting from the use of these dehumidifiers.

Sometimes the household products that consumers in West Virginia purchase end up being dangerous goods that cause serious harm to their users. In these situations, the injured consumers may decide to file product liability claims against the product manufacturers, and/or others in the consumer supply chain, seeking the reimbursement of monetary damages. A monetary award may help to cover a victim's hospital costs, the loss off wages and other damages stemming from the use of a defective product. It cannot undo the events resulting in the victim's injuries, but it may help the victim to experience a sense of justice in light of the circumstances surrounding his or her case.
