Household products being recalled include smoke alarms

Homeowners in West Virginia who have combination carbon monoxide detectors and smoke alarms may be affected by a recent recall of some of these devices. Over four million of them are being recalled since they may not alert people about these types of incidents. The faulty household products are made by Kidde NightHawk and are one of a few products that were recently recalled.

It was discovered that the alarm may fail to keep chirping when it reached the end of its life at seven years, even if the batteries have been replaced. This may lead customers to think the device is still in operation when, in reality, it is not. As a result, consumers might not be alerted about a carbon monoxide or fire incident in their houses.

The problematic devices were manufactured between June of 2004 and December of 2010. The alarms are designed to be hard-wired into the electrical power of a home. These products were sold at home centers and electrical distributors across the country as well as at Amazon.com. An estimated 3.6 million alarms are being recalled in the US. So far, there have been eight reports about incidents involving the recalled products, although there have not been any injuries reported.

Customers in West Virginia who are hurt by using defective household products have the right to seek to hold the manufacturers of these products accountable in civil court. In a successfully fought product liability case, the plaintiff may be awarded damages that could help to cover medical bills and other expenses resulting from the use of the dangerous product. Monetary compensation might also help to address pain and suffering as well as emotional distress stemming from this type of ordeal.
