Auto defects lead to recall of Toyota Tundra pickups

A Toyota vehicle recall may impact motorists in West Virginia. Toyota reported it is recalling nearly 79,000 Tundra pickup trucks due to auto defects involving the vehicle bumpers. The recall affects not only vehicles in the United States but also in other countries.

The specific trucks affected by the recall are from the model years of 2016 and 2017. All of these trucks have steps as well as resin reinforcement brackets in the trucks' rear bumpers. However, officials said the steps have the potential to break.

If one of the recalled trucks is backed up and hits something, this could cause damage to the step. Then, the step could break if somebody steps on it, thus increasing the risk of injury. Dealers have agreed to replace the brackets with brand new ones made out of steel.

Manufacturers of vehicles are expected to produce safe automobiles for use by consumers in West Virginia and elsewhere. However, sometimes auto defects exist, and if they are not caught early enough, they can cause motor vehicle crashes that lead to serious injuries or even death. If a defect causes an injury, the injured party may opt to file a personal injury claim against the car manufacturer and other parties in the consumer chain of supply. Likewise, the surviving loved ones of a consumer who dies due to the defect may file a wrongful death claim. A monetary award in a successfully litigated case may help cover financial losses and also protect other consumers from suffering a similar fate.
