Defective products from TNT, maker of fireworks, recalled

Consumers nationwide, including those in West Virginia, may have enjoyed fireworks around the July 4 holiday, and they may look forward to continuing to use fireworks with family and friends this summer. The problem with one particular company's fireworks, however, is that they may do more than just emit some colorful smoke after being lit. These defective products can actually explode.

TNT recently recalled its Red, White & Blue Smoke fireworks after receiving many reports about some of their devices exploding. More than 36,000 units of these fireworks have been recalled voluntarily. So far, three consumers have suffered minor burns as a result of the unexpected explosions.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the 30-day period around July 4 is when the majority of fireworks-related injuries happen. The TNT fireworks were sold at different vendors, including Kroger and Walmart. The company said that those with the problematic fireworks should report their products to the company for full refunds.

When products in West Virginia and elsewhere feature defects, they can unfortunately cause serious injuries in the consumers who use them. These injuries may not only lead to hefty medical bills but also may result in the loss of wages due to having to miss work to heal from the injuries. In these situations, the consumers have the right to file product liability claims against the product makers, seeking damages. A damage award in a successfully litigated suit may help with addressing medical bills and other losses resulting from defective products.
