Car accident sidelines West Virginia football player

Playing football is always a tricky prospect since the possibility of injury is always there. When a player is injured and not able to play, most West Virginia football fans expect that the player was injured while playing football. It is less often that a player is sidelined for injuries they received in a car accident.

Car accidents happen to a lot of people, and football players are no exception. The starting quarterback for Concord University in West Virginia was in a car accident recently and sustained what were initially characterized as severe injuries. The accident occurred at the intersection of Eads Mill Road and Route 20 between Princeton and Athens. The SUV in which the quarterback was riding was struck by a Jeep.

The Mercer County Sheriff's Department has cited the Jeep driver with failure to yield the right of way. The quarterback and the driver of the Jeep were both taken to Princeton Community Hospital to be treated for their injuries. Their current conditions are not known. It is also not known if there were other people in either vehicle or whether they also sustained injuries.

Depending on the nature of the quarterback's injuries and how long his recovery time is expected to be, he may not play football for Concord University this year. When he and his family are able to focus on it, they may decide to file a personal injury claim against the driver of the Jeep for the injuries sustained in this car accident. Knowing what their rights and responsibilities are under West Virginia law may help them determine how to proceed. In the official investigation confirms the preliminary findings, a negligence claim to recover medical expenses and other damages would appear to be appropriate under our laws.
