8 Men Severely Injured in a fire at a natural gas drilling site

| Jul 10, 2013 | Natural Gas Drilling Accidents

For many workers, unsafe work conditions are far too common. While the oil and gas industry in WV is currently seeing a surge in production, companies are all too often cutting corners on safety for the sake of profit.

According to Metro News, a fire at a natural gas drilling site in Doddridge County is currently under investigation after 8 workers were severely injured on Sunday, July 7th around 4:00 a.m. at an Antero Resources operation near New Milton, WV. Eight workers were injured in the fire. Five of them were flown to the West Penn Burn Center in Pittsburgh according to a spokeswoman from Antero. Three others were transported to local hospitals. The condition of the workers is unknown at this time.

Documents related to Antero Gas Explosion Injuries

This is not the first fire at an Antero site here in West Virginia. Last year, a fire at an Antero drilling site in Harrison County injured three workers. The company was cited by the DEP. This accident is being investigated by The Occupational Safety and Health Administration. OSHA and The WV Department of Environmental Protection have also been called in to investigate the accident.

Every worker deserves to feel safe in the workplace. Warner Law Offices recently reached a settlement with Antero Resources and Frontier Drilling arising from injuries suffered by a young worker on the oil rig. As a result of the unsafe working conditions, a piece of equipment struck the worker and rendered him severely injured and disabled from the workforce. Prior to trial in Harrison County, WV, Antero Resources and Frontier Drilling settled the worker’s claim for $12 million dollars.
