Teen suffers spinal cord injury in violent car crash

Every year in Charleston, teenagers experience the newly found freedom that a driver's license can offer. Many young drivers obey all traffic laws, determined to keep themselves, their passengers, and other drivers on the road safe. But if an inexperienced driver is reckless or negligent, an accident might happen. The consequences of such an accident can last a lifetime, especially if the victim suffers a spinal cord injury or a traumatic brain injury.

In Massachusetts, a teenage driver will face criminal charges stemming from a car accident that injured six people. According to authorities, the accident occurred when the teenager was driving his SUV at 80 mph. Because of his excessive speed, he lost control of his vehicle and jumped the median, where he collided with a pickup truck travelling in the opposite direction.

Three other teenagers were riding in the SUV along with the driver, including a 14-year-old boy who was ejected from the SUV. The boy was hospitalized in critical condition with spinal and brain injuries. While he is expected to survive, he will likely require long-term medical care due to the severity of his injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was also critically injured and is in a medically-induced coma at a local hospital.

In West Virginia, if a person is injured because of the actions of another, he or she can seek compensation to help cover the financial impact of the accident, including medical expenses and rehabilitation costs. A personal injury attorney can help accident victims and their families protect their legal rights.
