Brain injuries could result in early death

People who have suffered a brain injury are at risk for many different symptoms and long-term side effects. While there are catastrophic brain injuries that might be unsurvivable, there are also brain injuries that can lead to a person needing around the clock care or just frequent checkups to ensure their health.

A new study has found that people who have experienced a brain injury might have an increased risk of a premature death. That means, they are more likely to die before their life expectancy. The primary causes according to the research are from another brain injury, suicide or assault.

While these might be startling findings, many people with brain injuries can live fairly normal lives after their injuries. People need to understand that each case is unique and doctors will do their best to treat patients based on their individual circumstances. However, this research does suggest that patients who have suffered from a traumatic brain injury should seek ongoing care and ensure they communicate any change in behavior or feelings to their doctor.

People who suffer from mild brain injuries might also need ongoing care to ensure their health doesn't unexpectedly change. This care can be extremely expensive. Speaking with a personal injury attorney in West Virginia can help a person hold anyone who may have caused the brain injury accountable. Sometimes people's negligent actions lead to the injuries of others and they should be held accountable. While a lawsuit might not seem like a desired path for a victim, it can help ensure they can get the care that they badly need.
