NHTSA receives airbag defect complaints about 2008 Honda Accord

It is quite likely that many West Virginia consumers drive 2008 Honda Accords. These consumers should be aware that there have been complaints about an airbag defect that has caused two reported injuries so far. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has started an investigation into these complaints, which may eventually result in a recall. In the meantime, there may be a possibility for more injuries.

According to reports, the NHTSA has received 28 complaints about the side airbags deploying for no reason when the door is shut. One passenger suffered arm abrasions in July 2013 when the side curtain airbag deployed. In that incident, Honda purportedly told the vehicle owner that it would not pay for the repairs.

This is evidently not an isolated incident. Consumers who are reporting the airbag defect are also telling the NHTSA that Honda is refusing to accept responsibility. One man was told that he might receive a reimbursement for the repairs if a recall is ever issued, but he is also concerned about the possibility of someone being killed by a faulty airbag. Another consumer stated that he hopes to join a class-action suit.

As many drivers are aware, airbags can sometimes cause injury even when they are working properly. As for Honda, West Virginia consumers must now wait and see if the company eventually responds to the complaints. Regardless of what happens, anyone injured by such a defect may wish to examine his or her options under our state's products liability laws. In some cases, injured parties may be able to pursue compensation for medical expenses and other damages resulting from the faulty airbag.
