Traumatic brain injury has negative consequences in West Virginia

When someone suffers a brain injury, this can have grave consequences for the person's life in West Virginia. For instance, basic abilities such as eating, speaking or even seeing can be compromised. It is for this reason that someone who has been involved in an accident, such as a fall, or who has suffered injuries in a vehicle accident would benefit from being medically examined for traumatic brain injury.

Vehicle accidents, falls, violence and sports injuries are the most frequent causes of traumatic brain injury. In fact, tens of thousands of people each year pass away due to injuries of the brain. Meanwhile, nearly 100,000 individuals suffer from long-term disabilities because of these traumatic injuries.

Brain injuries can result if oxygen to the brain tissue or the blood is lacking. It also can happen if an injury causes the brain to be penetrated, or if a concussion occurs. Although brain injuries often are labeled as being severe, moderate or mild, all levels of brain injury can affect a person's life and thus require professional attention.

People in West Virginia are striving to raise more awareness about traumatic brain injury during the month of March, which is Brain Injury Awareness Month. After all, those who suffer brain injuries may need rehabilitation over a long period of time in order to make the most of their brains' functions and to remain as independent as possible. Failure to get the medical help needed following a brain injury can have a negative impact on one's quality of life. It certainly is within the rights of someone who has suffered a brain injury due to another person's alleged negligent or reckless behavior to file a suit against this party, seeking financial damages that can help with medical expenses and other losses linked to the situation.
