Chrysler, Dodge minivans recalled for fire-causing auto defect

When a person purchases a vehicle in West Virginia, they expect it to be in proper working order. They expect it to be safe for them to drive on the road. Unfortunately, this does not always happen, and an auto defect can slip through the cracks. It appears that faulty window switches are the subject of a recent recall by Chrysler Group.

Nearly 650,000 minivans are being recalled due to the potential risk of a fire. The minivans affected are both the Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town and Country for 2010 to 2014 year models. However, the recall is only for the minivans that have power windows in the third-row.

Apparently, if the window switch and liquid come into contact with each other, the switch can begin to overheat. This can potentially lead to a dangerous fire. At this time, Chrysler says that it has not received any reports of injuries or accidents.

An official notification will go out to minivan owners in June. A new switch will be installed by Chrysler and Dodge dealers for free. However, until a new switch can be installed, it is possible to have the old one disconnected to avoid the risk of a fire.

Auto defects come in all shapes and forms in West Virginia. Regardless, when an auto defect puts drivers or passengers of a vehicle at risk, victims may be able to obtain financial restitution in court by filing a lawsuit against the manufacturer of the vehicle or others in the supply chain. If it can be proven that the manufacturer and/or other defendants were negligent with respect to making or marketing a defective product, monetary damages may apply. Successful claims could include a monetary judgment for medical expenses incurred, pain and suffering and other damages recognized by our laws.
