IKEA recalls kids' lamps again due to potential wrongful death

IKEA is one of the most well-known brands across the world. West Virginia and other buyers choose IKEA products because they are easy to assemble with a few minor tools, in most cases, and are relatively affordable. Unfortunately, they are currently the subject of a defective product and one particular case may actually result in a products liability and wrongful death lawsuit.

Although IKEA announced a recall on their wall-mounted lamps for children, they are now re-announcing the recall regarding the defective product. Further, this new announcement includes more than three million lamps within West Virginia and the rest of the United States. The reason for this lamp recall is due to the potential hazard of strangulation.

The previous recall was international and came after two young toddlers became entrapped in the lamp's cord. A 16-month-old died due to strangulation and a 15-month-old was nearly strangled to death after getting trapped in the wall-mounted lamp's cord. As West Virginia residents can see, this could be considered a very dangerous product. In many cases, products are recalled before serious injury or death.

Dangerous children's products can be anything from clothing and toys to cribs and lamps. Many will generally require a replacement or minor repair for buyers to be on their way, but sometimes these types of remedies aren't suitable when the child has already suffered injury or death due to the defective product. When a child has been injured or died due to a defective product, West Virginia residents may want to seek out what legal rights they have available to them, such as a products liability or wrongful death suit, which may be able to provide monetary damages and hold manufacturers and sellers liable for their negligent and careless actions.
