Kraft Foods recalls 1.2M cases of a defective product

When West Virginia consumers purchase a food product from the store, they expect it to have gone through the necessary inspections to ensure it is safe for consumption. Unfortunately, this does not always happen and a defective product is released onto the market for consumers to purchase. This has recently occurred with various cottage cheese products.

Kraft Foods Group has recalled over 1 million cases of cottage cheese. The recall affects numerous brands, and the cottage cheese was made at one of the company's West Coast plants. Apparently, the products may have been improperly stored, which can cause serious illness.

The specific types of cottage cheese products affected include Breakstone, Simply Kraft, Daily Chef and Knudsen. Kraft Food reports that some of the products' ingredients may not have been stored at proper temperature, according to Kraft's standards. The affected products have code dates that start on May 9, 2014 and go through July 23, 2014.

Only the cottage cheese products by these specific brands are included in this recall. Consumers who have these products in their refrigerator are advised to not consume them. A full refund or exchange can be given at the store where the product was purchased.

Although a recall has been made by Kraft Foods, it doesn't mean that consumers have not already been harmed from ingesting the cottage cheese products. When a consumer is harmed as a result of negligence on the part of a manufacturer or distributor, the company may be held liable legally for its defective product. The company may also be forced to pay monetary damages to the West Virginia consumer after a successful claim is made in a civil court of law.
