Best Buy accused of selling recalled defective product

Consumers in West Virginia trust that the products they purchase are safe when used correctly. Most people understand that -- from time to time --products may be released to the market that are defective, but that companies will issue a recall as quickly as possible and take responsibility if any parties are injured due to the defective product. If a company issues the recall and a store continues to sell the product, consumers are put at risk. This is what retailer Best Buy is being accused of doing after officials claim the company sold digital cameras that were recalled.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, 10 different products were recalled because they posed a risk of fire, burn, shock and other injuries. Those who had purchased any of the items were entitled to get their money back, have it fixed or receive a replacement product. The Commission claims that Best Buy and some of its retail partners sold around 200 units of these defective products even after the recalls were issued, though they think that number might be even higher.

Best Buy apologized for selling the faulty products and said they will make changes to ensure something like this doesn’t happen in the future. At this time, no one has reported any injuries due to the products that were listed, which included digital cameras, dishwashers, dehumidifiers and several other household items. The CPSC issued a warning for consumers, cautioning them against using the products and informing them on how they can report their recalled item.

If it turns out that someone is injured due to one of these products purchased in this manner, he or she may choose to file a civil claim against Best Buy or its subsidiaries. If such a claim were litigated successfully, it could result in financial restitution that may be useful in covering medical expenses or other damages that might have been incurred due to the defective product. Consumers in West Virginia deserve to have all the facts in cases like these so that they may make an informed decision that is in their best interests.
