A recent recall has been issued for more than 15,000 pounds of chicken nuggets because it likely that the food is a defective product. Applegate recalled the popular chicken product after it was discovered that bits of plastic had been found in the nuggets. West Virginia consumers may also be affected by the defective product recall and should be cautious if they have purchased Applegate chicken nuggets anytime between Feb. 2014 to until the “sell by” date in Feb. 2015.

The company made a statement that said plastic from one of the pieces of containers used during processing got into the chicken. The recall was willingly issued by the company before one was issued by the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service. The only product impacted by the recall was the Applegate Naturals brand chicken nuggets and could include more than 30,000 packages of the food product.

At this time, it is not clear if any person has been adversely affected by the product, but it is advised that a person seek medical attention if they think they have accidentally ingested plastic. It is never safe for humans to consume non-food grade products. Even small amounts could have an impact on a person’s health.

When a company issues a recall for a defective product, the unsafe item could pose a potential hazard to consumers. When anyone, including those in West Virginia, has suffered because of a defective food product, the consumer could have certain options to seek a legal settlement. If anyone has eaten these chicken nuggets and has had health problems, they may wish to evaluate all possible options available for compensation.
