Scientists recently developed the most authentic-looking and feeling artificial brain tissue. This fake tissue might be exceedingly helpful for assisting researchers in understanding questions regarding traumatic brain injury and brain disease. This may provide comfort to those in West Virginia who struggle with brain injuries or have family members who do.

The tissue is three-dimensional and is similar in structure to the brain of a real rat. Rat brains are typically substitutes for human brains in research laboratories. The creation of the 3-D tissue is significant because, right now, the best method for studying brain tissue involves growing neurons in petri dishes; however, these neurons are only able to be grown flat.

This is a problem because an actual human brain features a complicated 3-D structure. The neurons, however, have proved not to be able to survive long when given room to expand in three different dimensions. The new artificial brain tissue depends on a spongy scaffold that is doughnut-shaped and made out of proteins. A gel made from collagen is at the “brain’s” center.

Research into how to treat people with traumatic brain injury can prove helpful for many individuals who suffer from the cognitive and physical side effects of these injuries. These individuals may also take advantage of their right to pursue financial damages that stem from an accident that led to the brain injury, if the accident was another person’s fault. Liability needs to be established by competent proof in order for the injured party’s claims for damages to be decided by a judge in West Virginia.
