When studying patients with brain damage, scientists discovered that damage in six particular hub areas produced much more cognitive impairment, compared with damage in other locations. Those with lesions in target hubs typically had major impairment in the areas of emotional functions, adaptive functions, reasoning and motor performance. They also struggled with their language skills, memory, perception and attention. The study involved the evaluation of long-term behavioral and cognitive data in several patients.
