Humidifiers recalled as dangerous household product

Most of our West Virginia readers likely have quite a few appliances in their home that help make their lives easier. Whether we're talking about something as basic as a stove or an automatic cappuccino machine, it is expected that these products work properly when we plug them in. However, for our readers who have an Air Innovation humidifier in their home, it may be beneficial to know that it has recently been touted as a dangerous household product.

Four colors of humidifiers have been recalled by Great Innovations. The colors that are included in the recall are red, blue, silver and black. Each of the humidifiers are 15 inches in height and come equipped with mood lights.

So far, there have been roughly 100 different incident reports made regarding these humidifiers. The recall is due to the possibility of the humidifier overheating due to a short in the circuit board caused by an interior water leak. This can then cause an unpleasant burning odor as well as smoke. In some cases, it can pose a serious fire hazard.

The one-gallon Air Innovations humidifiers were sold exclusively via QVC online and on television. They were sold on television during the month of January in 2014. They were sold online between December 2013 and February 2014.

Manufacturers of products -- like these humidifiers -- are required to recall the defective product as soon as they learn of the defect that could cause harm to a consumer. Unfortunately, this is not always the case and can leave them open to the possibility of a products liability claim being filed against them because of the dangerous household product. They may find themselves responsible for paying for a variety of damages, including pain and suffering, medical costs and property repairs here in West Virginia and across the country.
