Movie theater defective product: M&M's may have peanuts

Many of our West Virginia readers have been to the movies. While popcorn is a popular favorite among movie-goers, some may prefer candy. Unfortunately, those who favor M&M's need to be careful or they may find themselves looking into defective product legal options.

Theater boxes of world-famous M&M's are being recalled. The recall is voluntary and is because they may not be the regular, plain M&M's as described on the box. Instead, they may contain the peanut butter candy instead. These boxes were shipped between May 8, 2014 and July 1, 2014. They were shipped to almost all states in the United States, including West Virginia.

For those who suffer from peanut allergies, this could cause some serious health concerns. It could lead to trouble breathing, rashes or other allergic reactions. In some cases, the result could be life-threatening.

At the time of this article, no allergic reactions had been reported. However, this does not mean that there are not sufferers out there. For those who have suffered from eating these mislabeled M&M's at the theater, it may be time to consider becoming familiar with what options are available.

Manufacturers are expected to put products on the market that are safe for consumers. This includes products that are clearly identified as to what ingredients are found within. In this case, peanut butter M&M's may be inside a regular M&M's box. Although it likely wasn't done on purpose, this could still have adverse effects on consumers here in West Virginia and across the country. Manufacturers should be held liable for their negligent behavior by allowing this defective product to make it to the theaters, and a products liability claim may be able to help achieve that while also possibly providing compensation to the victims.
