2 die in West Virginia car accident

A fatal car accident occurred recently on I-81. West Virginia authorities reported that it happened on a recent Sunday evening. Two people died in the two-vehicle wreck, while a third person was apparently able to walk away from the car accident.

Police said that one vehicle was headed north on the Interstate. At that point, it entered the median and ended up hitting a semi-truck in the southbound lanes. Reportedly, both vehicles ended up catching fire.

Two individuals in the first vehicle died in the accident. Meanwhile, the semi driver was able to escape the truck after the collision. The Interstate was closed in both directions for multiple hours for the accident investigation and to clear the wreckage.

Failing to maintain one's lane may be considered negligence behind the wheel. The family member of any passenger in the first vehicle who was killed may opt to file a wrongful death lawsuit, seeking damages that may be helpful for covering funeral costs and other end-of-life expenses as well as other damages recognized by applicable laws. If the driver who allegedly caused the accident ended up dying in the wreck, his or her estate may still be sued; in addition, any separate owner of the vehicle he or she was operating at the time of the car accident may also be added as a defendant in a civil claim. If there is proof by a preponderance of the evidence that the driver was negligent, liability will likely be established. In that event, a West Virginia judge will decide the plaintiff's claims for monetary damages.
