Parents should check strollers for defective product models

Parents here in West Virginia with young children likely have had at least one stroller in the household. It is a common staple for busy, on-the-go families. After all, strollers make life a lot easier. However, for parents with a Graco stroller in the house, it may be time to check the product name and model number and stop using it. This is because of a defective product recall that was recently made.

Close to five million Graco strollers have been recalled due to a defect in the stroller's design. Apparently, a child can get his or her finger stuck in the side hinges of the stroller. This can then lead to a serious injury, including the possible amputation of the child's fingertip.

The models involved in this recall include Aspen, Breeze, Capri, Cirrus, Glider, Kite, Literider, Sierra, Solara, Sterling and TravelMate. At the time of this writing, nearly one dozen babies have been injured because of the defect in these Graco strollers. Consumers can expect to receive a repair kit in Dec. 2014. Until then, it is recommended for consumers with these defective strollers to be extremely careful when folding and unfolding the stroller.

West Virginia parents who have a child who has been injured due to the defective Graco stroller may be entitled to financial compensation via a products liability claim against the stroller manufacturer. A successful claim would hold Graco responsible for its negligent actions regarding allowing a defective product to be sold to consumers and put young children at risk for harm. At the same time, the claim could possibly provide a monetary award to the child's family for any harm that was caused.
