Residents in West Virginia who have children in high school who play football, basketball or other sports may have at least one stadium seat in their home. After all, the bleachers at games can be very uncomfortable. Unfortunately, if residents have a particular brand of stadium seat, they may have a defective product in their home that they are using on a regular basis.

Roughly 6,000 stadium seats have recently been recalled by GCI Outdoor due to the seat being potentially dangerous. Apparently, one consumer has already reported an incident occurring with his or her stadium seat. The consumer fell several feet from the top of a bleacher, which resulted in back and neck injuries.

The stadium seats were sold at a variety of retail stores, including Sports Authority, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Academy Sports and Outdoors. They were sold in royal blue, navy blue, red, green, maroon and black with a yellow buckle on the strap for the seat bottom. The seats sold for roughly $25 starting in Jan. 2013 through Aug. 2014. Consumers affected are being asked to call GCI Outdoor immediately to order and receive a repair kit free of charge.

Manufacturers are held to a certain standard when it comes to the products that they create. Consumers in West Virginia expect a product to be fully functional and safe when they purchase it. When an injury or death occurs due to a defective product, those injured or the families of those who have died may have the legal right to file a products liability claim against the manufacturer of the product. A successful claim may award the victim or the victim’s family with monetary damages for the harm that was caused, while also holding the manufacturer liable for the dangerous product that was allowed onto the market.
