Porsche auto defects may affect West Virginians

One of the most important factors people often consider when buying a new car is the vehicle's safety record. Unfortunately, manufacturers sometimes make mistakes that result in dangerous auto defects -- defects that are potentially fatal. Some consumers in West Virginia may be impacted by a recent recall by the auto company Porsche in connection with a fuel-seal defect.

Porsche, which is owned by Volkswagen AG, has recalled nearly 13,500 automobiles worldwide in an effort to address a particular seal that might let fuel evaporate. There is a risk that the fumes can catch fire as a result of this defect. The vehicles affected include Cayenne SUVs as well as Panamera sedans featuring 3-liter V6 engines.

The recall impacts both standard-power and hybrid models manufactured between 2011 and 2012. The Porsche recall is just one of many expected to occur in the United States in 2015. More public attention is being paid to safety defects in cars throughout the country.

Auto defects can pose major issues because, if they are not addressed by the vehicle manufacturer as soon as they are discovered, they can lead to injuries or deaths. Vehicle recalls are designed to protect a large number of consumers from such defects, but sometimes a consumer is injured or killed as a result of a defect before a recall is issued. In any cases in which injuries result from defective parts, the affected party or his or her family has the right to file a civil lawsuit in West Virginia, pursuing the reimbursement of financial damages stemming from the defective product. A financial award may help a victim to cover his or her related medical costs and other losses tied to use of the product.
