Car wreck claims 1 teen's life, injures another teen

In an unfortunate vehicle crash, one teenager in West Virginia recently passed away while another one suffered injuries. The car wreck took place early in the morning on a recent Saturday. It started when a police officer was trying to stop a car for committing a minor driving violation.

The officer turned on his vehicle's emergency lights. At that time, the car he was pursuing sped up, going more than 80 miles per hour. The officer attempted to catch up but decided not to pursue the vehicle any longer because of the road's icy conditions. Authorities said they later received a call from the person driving the fleeing car, saying that he had been in a car crash.

The driver of the car, 17, suffered injuries in the collision and was taken to the hospital; his condition was deemed stable there. Meanwhile, his passenger, 15, was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead when he arrived. As of this report, police had not yet determined whether or not alcohol or drugs were causal factors in the crash. The driver was not charged at the time.

The family members of the teenage passenger who died in the car wreck may try to hold the teenage driver accountable. They have the right to file a wrongful death claim, seeking monetary damages that may help them to cope with the victim's funeral costs and other losses tied to the tragic accident. Only if liability is sufficiently established in a West Virginia civil court will the plaintiff's claims for financial damages be decided.
