Medical technology may improve treatments for spinal cord injury

Technology in medicine has dramatically evolved in recent years, thus revolutionizing how doctors diagnose and treat patients in West Virginia and other parts of the United States. One type of technology introduced within the past few years, in particular, is a scan machine called the SPECT-CT. With it, doctors can diagnose any new spinal cord injury that has occurred in someone who was previously diagnosed with damage to the spinal cord.

Prior to this technology, a patient would have had to undergo many scans in order to be diagnosed. Even then, physicians would have needed to essentially do guesswork. However, this new machine combines two kinds of images, which enables physicians to clearly identify where the problem is and the nature of this problem.

Thanks to the new technology, doctors are able to make diagnoses that are more precise than they were in the past. They thus can treat illnesses and injuries in a less invasive manner. Remaining on top of such advances in medical technology is critical for hospitals throughout the United States that serve patients with spinal cord injury.

The development of technology may spark hope in those suffering from spinal cord injury. However, patients with these injuries in West Virginia may still seek a sense of justice if their injuries stemmed from the negligent behavior of another person -- such as a driver who caused the car accident that led to their injury. These individuals have the right to file personal injury claims against the person deemed to have caused or contributed to the accident, pursuing financial damages that may help them to cover medical costs tied to the injury.
