Dangerous or defective products include frozen pastries this week

People here in West Virginia put their faith into food manufacturers and companies to ensure that all safety warnings and ingredients are properly placed on the packaging or labels of products. Sadly, one of the reasons that there are dangerous or defective products on the market is because this is not always done. This oversight puts consumers at serious risk, which in extreme cases, could lead to someone's death.

Frozen pastries sold at Trader Joe's have recently been recalled by Prolainat. The specific product, "A Dozen Sweet Bites," was recalled due to the fact that the ingredient label does not specify that coconut is used an ingredient. Those with coconut sensitivity or a coconut allergy could be put at serious risk.

All 9.16 oz packages of the product that were produced from January 2011 to Feb. 5, 2014 are affected. The UPC #00967679 can be located on the back of product's packaging. These products should be thrown away immediately by those who have an allergy to coconuts, and consumers should contact their local Trader Joe's for a full refund.

West Virginia residents need to know that any product that is offered to consumers for purchase can be potentially harmful. Product liability laws are in place to protect consumers from dangerous or defective products by ensuring recalls are made of products that do not meet the standards, including inaccurate labels. However, recalls can come too late and someone can be injured or even killed. If this happens, the victim or the surviving family members of the victim may be entitled to monetary damages via a civil claim against the company for its negligent acts.
