This week's dangerous or defective products may cause burns

West Virginia residents may be interested in hearing about a recent recall involving night lights by Nantucket Distributing Co. The recall comes after a couple of reported incidents where the plastic surrounding the light bulb melted. Luckily, no property damage occurred nor did the individuals report any injuries as a result of the dangerous or defective products

However, the risk of a fire occurring and causing damage to the property is still possible. The same is true for a risk of burning oneself. This could occur to adults who do not realize that the product is defective. Alternatively, children in the home could accidentally touch the night light not realizing that it could burn them, as most night lights would not pose this type of threat.

The night lights in question were sold at various Christmas Tree Shops from Dec. 2014 through March 2015. Consumers likely paid roughly $5 for them. Nantucket has urged anyone who has one of these nightlights to contact the store as soon as possible to receive information on what to do next.

Although it has become less and less likely for dangerous or defective products to make it to shelves for consumer purchasing thanks to standardized testing, some still slip through the cracks. When this happens and a person here in West Virginia suffers an injury, it may be possible to pursue legal action against the designer, maker and/or seller of the product, depending on the exact circumstances. Companies are responsible for the safety of the products that they make and sell, so when these products cause injury or death, a product liability claim may be an appropriate option to take.
