Defective medical devices include Essure contraception device

Some women in West Virginia may have been negatively impacted by birth control devices that go by the name of Essure. These potentially defective medical devices have been implanted into hundreds of thousands of women and are said to have almost killed some of them. The Food and Drug Administration is currently reviewing this popular birth control implant's safety.

Essure is a contraception device that looks like small coil. One woman said when she used the device that it drastically decreased her quality of life. She said just days after she had the device implanted, she began to suffer symptoms. She said she was diagnosed with cancer of the cervix, although she was not sure if the cancer was directly related to the contraception device, and she also developed gum disease.

Nearly 750,000 woman currently use the device. Many patients suspect that the nickel metal in the device is causing them to suffer side effects. Lawmakers are now considering whether to ban this device.

Defective medical devices can pose serious threats, as they can keep a person in West Virginia from living a fulfilling life due to health problems. If a person ends up suffering harm due to using defective devices, he or she has the right to seek monetary damages. No amount of money can fully remove the physical and emotional difficulties experienced as a result of using defective products. However, a financial award may help the victim to cover the costs of any medical treatment needed to address the situation, and it can also help to address emotional distress caused by use of the device.
