Defective products from bike companies recalled

West Virginia consumers may be impacted by a recent recall of bicycles. This recall is the biggest voluntary one in the bike industry's history. It involves a total of 13 businesses, covering defective products for 17 different bicycle brands.

The problem leading to the recall has to do with nearly 1.5 million bikes that feature disc brakes and front-wheel quick releases. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, three incidents have been reported where riders suffered injuries after the front wheel's open quick release level touched the front disc brake. The bikes impacted by the recall date back to 1998.

The bicycles that are being recalled sold for $200 to $10,000. The bikes that are problematic are those with less than a quarter of an inch of distance between the bike's brake disc rotor and the cam lever. Consumers with defective bikes are encouraged to immediately cease using their bikes and get in touch with the bike companies so that their new quick releases can be installed for free on the bikes' front wheels.

Manufacturers in West Virginia are expected to generate products that are safe for customers to use. If they fail to do this, consumers may suffer injuries that keep them from leading normal lives or prevent them from being able to return to work for a period of time. People who are hurt as a result of defective products have the right to assess all of their legal options in an effort to correct any wrongs. This may include commencing products liability litigation in order to pursue claims for financial damages sustained by using the hazardous products.
