Auto defects plague multiple cars, lead to recalls

People in West Virginia may be depending on vehicles that, according to officials, are unreliable and perhaps even deadly. BMW and Hyundai models are some of vehicle makes that were recently recalled. Thousands of people are affected by the recalls tied to auto defects.

BMW of North America has recalled certain BMW vehicles from model year 2016. Authorities said that more than 7,000 affected vehicles have an inboard anchor designed for left-rear seat child restraints that might have been bent downward. This prevents child seats from completely engaging both of the lower anchors and thus not complying with federal vehicle safety standards. Child seats that are not correctly attached to the anchors may increase the risk of injuries in a vehicle crash.

The Hyundai Sonata from model years 2011 and 2012 are also being recalled. This is because the stopper pad of the brake pedal may deteriorate, thus allowing the plunger for the brake light switch to stay on when the driver is releasing the brake pedal. This prevents other drivers from knowing whether the vehicle is stopping or slowing down, which increases the risk of an accident.

Auto defects in West Virginia can pose serious problems because they can lead to major injuries, or worse, should an accident occur. The defect must be remedied as soon as it is discovered. It is within the rights of a person injured as a result of auto defects to file a claim against the car manufacturer, seeking damages that -- if awarded -- may help cover monetary losses. Similarly, the surviving family members of a deceased victim may pursue wrongful death litigation against the manufacturer and/or others in the consumer supply chain.
