Spinal Cord Injury Victims Benefit From Medical Advances

People with spinal cord injuries in West Virginia often experience a decreased quality of life for several reasons. For example, they might lose their ability to move part of their body or lose sensation. They may also lose control of their bowels. Research shows that spinal cord injury can also have multiple other life-altering effects.

In years past, doctors often linked spinal cord injuries to early death sentences. This was not necessarily due to the fact that a person could become paralyzed as a result of the injury but that several medical complications typically followed spinal cord injuries. Times have since changed, and technology is enabling people with these debilitating injuries to have almost normal spans of life and improved life quality.

Researches have been able to come up with new drugs that have enhanced injured patients’ ability to function with their injuries. They have also created remedies that can help to alleviate patients’ suffering. Experts from several fields, ranging from rehabilitation medicine and neurology to molecular biology and physiology, have been working together to address spinal cord injury victims’ largely neglected yet relevant health problems.

If someone in West Virginia has suffered a spinal cord injury because of someone else’s negligence — for instance, failure to obey a traffic rule on the road — this person has the right to file a claim against the person who reportedly caused the injury. Liability has to be established in a way that satisfies a civil court in West Virginia. If this happens will the court determine financial damage claims?
