Defective Products Include Lighting Fixtures, Bike Components

 | Jul 25, 2015 | Personal Injury

West Virginia consumers typically buy products that will add to their quality of life. When a company manufactures defective products, however, these items can end up causing a person to suffer an injury or even die. Lighting fixtures and bicycle components are just some of several products that were recently recalled due to product defects. This list also includes cribs and cameras.

The lighting fixtures that were recently recalled are by the company Cooper Lighting. The recalled items are fluorescent lighting fixtures that feature two lights and are between 18 inches and four feet long. These fixtures have the potential to overheat and then arc and melt, which poses a fire hazard. So far, there have been seven reports concerning the overheating fixtures. These goods were sold throughout the United States at stores such as True Value and Lowe’s from July 2011 to April 2015.

Specialized Body Geometry’s pedal axle extenders have also been recalled. Officials said these products can break, which may cause a bike rider who is using them to lose control and thus fall. These extenders were sold online and at specialized retailers between January 2009 and June 2015. There have been 10 reports of problems with the extenders, with two of them concerning minor injuries.

Customers in West Virginia understandably expect the products they buy to be safe to use. When they are hurt due to using defective products, they have the right to file product liability claims against the product manufacturers. This allows them to try to hold the manufacturers accountable for the alleged product defects and seek monetary damages tied to the injuries suffered as a result of using the hazardous items.
