Auto defects lead to recalls of Buick, Honda vehicles

Several vehicle recalls have recently been issued and may affect some West Virginia drivers. These recalls stemming from auto defects involve multiple vehicle models, including the Buick Regal. Another model affected is the Honda Civic.

Certain 2016 model year Buick Regal vehicles are being recalled by General Motors, or GM, since the vehicles' power-steering assist systems might fail. Losing power-steering assist might increase a person's risk of a collision. The vehicles being recalled were manufactured from August 2015 to February 2016. Dealers can replace the effected vehicles' pinion steering gear assemblies and electric belt drive racks at no cost.

Honda has also recalled certain 2016 Civic automobiles since they were produced without piston wrist pin circlips or with circlips that were incorrectly installed. If a circlip is not installed correctly or is missing, the engine might end up seizing, thus increasing a driver's risk of experiencing a fire or crash. Dealers will replace the defective vehicles' piston assemblies as well as their damaged engine components, as needed, for free.

When vehicles feature defects, this can pose a serious hazard to their owners and to other motorists on the road. If a person in West Virginia becomes injured as a result of auto defects, he or she has the right to take legal action against the reportedly at-fault car manufacturer. Damages -- if achieved -- might help the victim to cover his or her related medical costs as well as the loss of wages, if the individual's injuries prevented him or her from being able to work for a period of time.
