Defective products include wooden products, drywall lifts

Products can easily lead to major injuries or even to the loss of life if they feature defects. In these situations, the makers of the defective products may be held liable in civil court. Recent recalls of a few items, including wooden toys and drywall lifts, may impact West Virginia consumers.

Wooden giraffes and blocks manufactured by Flying Tiger Copenhagen were recently recalled since parts of them have the potential to become detached. This may result in small pieces that might pose a choking hazard when young children play with them. The blocks come in various colors, including yellow, pink, red, green and blue. So far, there have not been any injury incidents reported, but 1,000 of these products were sold.

The drywall lifts that were recently recalled are from the company YTL. These lifts are utilized to lift drywall sheets but may fail when being used, thus causing a drywall load to potentially fall on the operator of the lift. Although there have been a couple of reports of drywall lifts failing, there have been no injuries reported. Nearly 17,000 lifts have been sold in the United States.

If a person becomes injured due to using a defective product, he or she has the right to file a personal injury claim. Meanwhile, if people lose their lives after using defective products, their surviving loved ones might choose to file wrongful death claims against the product manufacturers, pursuing financial damages. Only if liability is established in a manner that satisfies the court hearing a case will claims for monetary damages be determined in West Virginia.
